Today's Pearls Before Swine cartoon was hilarious on several levels to me. Not only was I obsessed with learning Welsh as a kid, but now I've got a very close friend who is a native speaker of Welsh. She and her bearded husband are coming to visit us this November, and I couldn't be more excited to show them America and a "real Thanksgiving." (Or as real as my tiny apartment kitchen will permit.)
Welsh is a funny looking language, and I never did get very far in learning it as a kid. Those "Teach Yourself Welsh" cassette tapes I begged my mom to get for me didn't help all that much. But it was just another fun thing for this weird kid to do...

You don't know me -- I found your blog when I was searching for that comic strip. I'm an American who has learned to speak Welsh (shockingly well, all things considered) through a free (no tricks, free) web-based audio course called www.saysomethinginwelsh.com . Your Welsh-speaking friend may have heard of it -- it's won a biggish award in Wales, and Stephen Fry recently tweeted about it, and there are something like 15,000 of us around the world learning to speak Welsh with it. There's an extremely friendly web forum with the course, too, and people Skype with each other, and etc. Come on over, the Welsh is fine!

Hi Diane!
Thanks for the note! I will definitely check this website out. I still hope to learn to speak Welsh one of these days...
Cheers,
E
